The right to deal for each hand is typically rotated among's the players and is marked with a white plastic token called a button" or "buck". In a casino a house dealer handles the cards for each hand, but the buck is rotated among the players to the order of betting.
For each hand dealt, one or more players are required to make initial forced bets to create a stake for which the players will start to contest.
The dealer shuffles the cards, then he or another player cuts the deck, then the appropriate number of cards are dealt to the players one at a time.
After the initial deal, the first of what may be several betting rounds begins. The players hands develop during the game, often by being dealt additional or replacing ones dealt cards. At the end of each round, all bets are gathered into the central pot.
During a betting round, if a player makes a higher bet, opponents are required to match it or to "fold" their cards and forfeit their contest in the pot. If one player bets high and no opponents choose to match his bet, the deal ends immediately and the high bettor is awarded the whole pot, when this happens no cards are shown (even the bettor's), and the next deal begins.
This ability to win the pot without showing a hand makes Poker bluffing possible. Bluffing is one of the primary feature of Poker that distinguishes it from other vying games and also from other games that make use of Poker hand rankings.
When the last betting round is finished, if more than one player remains, a showdown in which the players reveal their hidden cards and evaluate their hands (according to ranking system). The player with the best ranked hand according to the poker variant being played wins the pot.
Most popular poker variants can be loosely classified as draw poker, stud poker, or community card poker different poker games exist as well. The most commonly played games in these categories are five-card draw, seven-card stud" and Texas hold em respectively.
